Why not ruble cash or a card

  • Ruble cash is accepted by a handful of counters and always at a poor rate — the ruble is illiquid here.
  • Russian bank cards do not work in Vietnam: neither payments nor ATM withdrawals.
  • Routing through third countries or crypto adds two conversions and a fee on each.
  • SBP removes the middle links: one conversion, one rate, cash in hand the same hour.

Only as a fallback and at a worse rate. An SBP transfer is always better value.
