How much money to bring to Vietnam, and in what form

The useful decision is made before the flight: what form your money travels in. Cash US dollars and USDT are the two that always work — both convert to Vietnamese dong here in Da Nang without paperwork. If you are travelling on a Russian bank card, treat it as dead weight: those cards do not work abroad, for payments or ATMs.

The second question is how much to hold as dong cash. Vietnam still runs on cash in daily life — markets, small cafés, taxis, motorbike rental. So you need dong from day one, but there is no reason to convert the whole trip at once: we fix the rate at the moment of the order and a normal exchange takes five to ten minutes, so you can top up whenever you need.
